If you thought Bijan Robinson was impressive in the Atlanta Falcons' season opener, that was just another day at the office for the best back in football. He's been plagued by bad QB play his entire career, so having to keep the offense afloat with Cooper Rush starting was nothing new to him.
In the 20-13 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, Bijan touched the ball 29 times: 21 carries for 83 yards, plus eight receptions for 90 yards and a touchdown. He reportedly touched the ball on almost 66% of his carries in the season opener and he was responsible for 72.6% of their total yards on offense.
That's the beauty of having a player like Bijan Robinson: You can model your entire offensive gameplan around him. He's dangerous in the run game and can contribute in the receiving game. No wonder he led the NFL in scrimmage yards last year, but if you thought the Steelers game was peak No. 7, you have another thing coming.
The Falcons have their home opener this weekend against the Carolina Panthers, and it's a juicy one for their All-Pro back. So if you have Robinson on your fantasy team, you're in luck, because not only is he seven yards away from 4,000 career rushing yards, he'll likely help you win your week again..
Bijan Robinson is going to torch this Carolina Panthers' defense in Week 2
The Panthers are coming off of a 59-37 loss to the Chicago Bears in their season opener, and the run game is where they were specifically vulnerable. While their defense surrendered over 550 yards of total offense, they gave up almost 300 on the ground--which came courtesy of several players a lot worse than Atlanta's RB1.
The Bears amassed a combined six rushing touchdowns and 291 rushing yards between Caleb Williams, D'Andre Swift, and Kyle Monangai--and each of the latter two went over 100 rushing yards, while Swift recorded a hat trick of rushing TDs and Williams added two rushing scores of his own.
After a dismal performance in run defense, the Panthers unsurprisingly rank dead last in the NFL in EPA per rush, and now they face the single most dangerous running back in the NFL. The Dirty Birds should lean into that advantage, especially if they're stuck with Rush in the starting lineup once again.
Bijan Robinson is a threat to take any given play to the house, and that should scare a defense that gave up a 61-yard score to Monangai. He's more explosive and versatile than Swift or Monangai, so if Carolina failed to contain them, there's no telling the problems they'll have in store on Sunday.
While Atlanta is getting their money's worth on the new extension for their All-Pro back, they have to be careful not to run him into the ground with the workload. Of course it's tempting to give him the ball every play, but they have the same luxury the Bears do: because of their talent on offense, the Panthers can't key in on him as much.
It doesn't matter what the quarterback play looks like for the Atlanta Falcons in Week 2 because BIjan Robinson is again going to be their focal point on offense-- so he could have a record-setting day against a porous defense. Hopefully his expected big day results in a win.
