Pittsburgh vs. Arizona. The Steel Curtain vs. the Redbirds.
Russ Grimm and Ken Whisenhunt vs. their old team.
The game should be good. I have a hard time believing any game can match up to last year in Arizona. I will say that Superbowl is still the best single championship game I have ever seen and one of the best games ever. Period, end of story.
So where do I begin? I like the match up first off. I really like it actually. High powered offense and the best receiving corps probably ever assembled against the number one ranked defense this year. I [...]

The Superbowl is set
Why is the NFL draft so great?
It is late January and the Superbowl match-up is set. We will have media day and all of the great stories that come out of the biggest game of the year. But once that final whistle is heard the NFL season will end and with it the most coveted of times begins…. The NFL off-season.
The off-seasonis like spring in the annual cycle of nature, a time of rebirth and renewal. It gives the teams that had great years to reflect on strengths and weaknesses and build for the pain and anguish to come in August and September in mini-camps and training camps. The [...]
Heads are gonna roll…
Jon Gruden and Bruce Allen are out in Tampa Bay and Brian Stewart is out in Dallas. Two teams that, in my opinion are going to two separate directions.
Tampa Bay is going to be awful. Sorry Pewter Plank but I can’t imagine a good scenario happening in Tampa at this point. The way I see things I have a very strong inkling that the Bucs could just become the next big thing in bad if they aren’t careful. Look at the team from top to bottom and it isn’t hard to imagine with an extra year on an already aging defense and [...]
A look back on the 2008 draft
The Atlanta Falcons season is over but now we in the Falcons nation turn our attention to the offseason. The offseason, that magical time when crappy teams can hope that that one really good draft pick can give them a chance or for a contender to get that last piece to push them over the edge of greatness.
So, I want to reflect a minute on a great draft class in 2008 and look forward to April 2009 and ask my loyal readers whom we should draft.
I will go on record and say that I think the 2008 draft will go down as [...]
The coach of the year
Mike Smith won. Yep, it’s true. The Falcons rookie head coach had about as great a year as a guy could have and I am really really happy. OK, now that I have cleared that fact I am going to give you a reason why Tony Sparano should have won.
The Dolphins won the division and lost to a better team today in the Ravens. The Falcons lost to the Cardinals (yechh!)
I am a big believer in what is fair is fair and the coach of the year should have gone to Sparano. So am I upset? No! My coach won [...]
Well the Falcons came into the desert as favorites to beat the Arizona Cardinals. But, alas it was not meant to be….
Matt Ryan played well. Michael Turner played tough and Roddy White was looking good. The Arizona Cardinals had an answer for everything the Falcons threw at them.
This is not an angry post. I was at the game and it was a great experience to see the Cardinals fans (yes, they actually exist) show up and be so excited. The Cards were well prepared and they showed it from the first drive on. Warner was playing like the seasoned vet [...]
Gameday
The Bird is leaving to go watch the bird bowl! Falcons will win. I will give a breakdown later tonight!
The Bird Speaks!
The 2008 season is not over for the Falcons but we now know who the birds will be playing next year. I looks like we will be getting the east teams for the most part this coming year, which I am pleased with since it means limited travel and I am excited to see how the Falcons do against what is in my opinion a better class of opponents. So here is the breakdown:
Home: Tampa Bay Buccanners, New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers, Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Redskins, Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins, Chicago Bears.
Away: NFC South teams, Dallas Cowboys, New England Patriots, NY Jets, NY Giants, San Francisco 49ers.
I reall hope [...]
