The Atlanta Falcons Should Immediately Sign Michael Sam

This comes down to a matter of opinion for the Atlanta Falcons fan base.

For some, a gay player in the NFL is a disgrace and simply not right, but for others it is the same situation as any another male to ever enter this league.

Sam gets the dreaded “stiff” label at times and struggles in pursuit, with a fairly limited set of pass rushing moves that mean he’ll likely need to be coached up. Any team bringing him into the fold will be looking to have him contribute on special teams in year one, get limited snaps on defense and hope he’ll develop into something special down the line. The Atlanta Falcons, with their need for more quality players at linebacker, do seem to be a natural fit.

Thomas Dimitroff knows he is on the hot seat. Tyson Jackson and Paul Soliai has been average at best, and  the “new defense” that he put together is terrible. After writing several articles about how TD should sign the prolific Andre Carter, maybe Carter was just too aged for his lick. So in comes Michael Sam.

Sam can have an immediate impact on the pass rush and maybe give this team a chance for a run at the playoffs. Jonathan Massaquoi is the best the Atlanta Falcons have right now, with Kroy Biermann and Jonathan Babineaux not performing up to standards, so how worse can it be?

Forget the “gay” stuff. This is about football, and Michael Sam can play football.
