$7 Million

Atlanta Falcons’ fans should be both thrilled and terrified at the recent reports that inside linebacker Danny Trevathan is going to be a highly sought-after player for the team once free agency opens up in a little over a week.

Falcons’ fans should be thrilled for the fact that he is one of the best free agent linebackers on the market and would instantly transform Atlanta’s poor linebacking corps but should also be terrified at the fact that a lot of teams will be going after him so the chances of Atlanta being his destination of choice is by no means whatsoever a lock.

Many expect the Falcons to let inside linebacker Paul Worrilow walk in free agency and rightfully so. He is not deserving of a long-term contract from the team that signed him as an underrated free agent so there will be a big hole to fill in his absence. Trevathan is twice, if not three times’ the player Worrilow is so this makes sense on so many levels.

Trevathan also has ties to Atlanta. Falcons’ defensive coordinator Richard Smith was his linebacker’s coach in Denver before taking the job with the Falcons.
