1 undrafted rookie is making his final Falcons roster push at the perfect time

It’s Cash money going from University of Georgia walk-on the first day of classes, to a two-time National Championship winner, all the way to potentially contributing to the Atlanta Falcons.

Undrafted RB Cash Jones had as good a day as anyone in Week 2 of the NFL preseason versus the Indianapolis Colts in a 34-7 beatdown: 4 catches for 62 yards (both led the team), 7 carries for 42 yards, a 13-yard TD, and a 23-yard kick return. Boasting more catches (57) than carries (52) collegiately, yet still toting 5.9 YPC in 54 games played, Jones can do both.

With the August 30th final 53-man cutdown fast approaching and the Week 3 preseason game/joint practices versus the Miami Dolphins, Jones’s versatility offers him a great chance to stick around at the bottom of the roster.

Versatility, you say? Jones completed OTAs and Falcons minicamp in the wide receiver group, yet Kevin Stefanski and the staff thought enough to explore his potential as a depth running back, able to carry those receiving skills over in transition to his collegiate position that initially garnered their interest in what already appears as a strong undrafted class (Jack Strand, Carlos Allen Jr., Malcolm DeWalt IV, etc.).

With Bijan Robinson and Brian Robinson Jr. as locks to get the RB1/RB2 duo spots, and Atlanta native Tyler Goodson seemingly claiming the RB3 spot after his strong preseason running, receiving, and acing special teams, reflect on the last cut day positional allocations as far as the potential math. Although it’s a new coaching staff and front office, enough similar personnel remain in the building for an outline.

On August 26th, 2025, the Falcons rostered three running backs and seven wide receivers. That’s a receiver room that was earlier in a rebuild of the unit than they are now behind WR1 Drake London, particularly the hype that has come with fellow Georgia Bulldog teammate and third-round pick, Zachariah Branch.

ESPN Falcons reporter Marc Raimondi released his 53-man projection on Monday, thinking the Falcons retain three running backs again (Bijan Robinson, Brian Robinson Jr., Tyler Goodson), but contrasting to last season’s results, he went with five receivers (Drake London, Jahan Dotson, Olamide Zaccheaus, Zachariah Branch, Chris Blair).

For the last 7-8 roster spots battling it out the next few days, who can provide value? Who can play multiple roles? Who can be the best insurance policy for injury? Who can find a niche role? I know a guy…and he’s money--and I'm not just referring to his name.
