A win for Tony
If you aren’t aware of how this game turned out then you must be brand new to the Atlanta Falcons because this is one of the most exciting games in Atlanta Falcons history. The Falcons finished the 2012 regular season with a 13-3 record and a No.1 seed in the NFC.
After a bye in round one, the Falcons hosted the up and coming Seattle Seahawks in the Georgia dome for a chance to play in the NFC Championship. The Falcons jumped out to a commanding 20-0 lead at halftime and led 27-7 heading into the fourth quarter but that wasn’t good enough to win.
the Seahawks scored 21 unanswered points to take a 28-27 lead with 31 seconds remaining in the game and many fans believed that the Falcons had blown it. Not so fast. After a solid return, Matt Ryan connected with Harry Douglas on a 29-yard route and then hit Tony Gonzalez across the middle for 19 yards to set up a 49-yard field goal with 8 seconds remaining.
With the Georgia Dome fans on the edge of their seat, Matt Bryant nailed the kick right down the middle which sent everyone into a frenzy. However, the game was not over. After an odd squib kick gave the Seahawks the ball at midfield with time for one last play, Russell Wilson launched a pass into the end zone but it was intercepted by none other than Julio Jones to secure the victory.
The Falcons hosted the 49ers in the NFC Championship the following week.
