Round 2, 50th overall: OLB Su’a Cravens, USC

Wishfull thinking in regards of the Atlanta Falcons actually being interested in USC linebacker/safety Su’a Cravens turned into a reality yesterday when Cravens himself reported that he was in Atlanta visiting with the team. And this couldn’t be more exciting.

Cravens isn’t like any other player in this draft class. He’s a special breed that you don’t come across all that often and his NFL potential is through the roof as a result. He isn’t going to be a first-round pick mainly because of his size. Some teams could use him as a box safety or he could be used as a weak side linebacker. Whichever position that may be, he will need to either shed or gain some weight but the talent is clear as day.

If the Falcons were to draft him, they would probably use him as a hybrid box safety/weak side linebacker. He wouldn’t be the starting strong safety, but you would probably see him slide into that role in certain packages. He would be the Falcons’ starting weak side linebacker and he would be a dang good one at that.

You also have to remember that if the Falcons do in fact trade down in the first round, they will all but likely receive an extra second-round pick which makes even more sense to draft a player like Cravens. He would be a stellar player in Dan Quinn’s system and could be a future all-pro. Take this man, Dimitroff.
