3) Cyrus Gray, RB

One of the most mysterious players on the Falcons’ roster right now is running back Cyrus Gray. After spending three seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs as a backup, Gray was picked up by the Falcons midway through training camp. And after sitting out the first preseason game, Gray played very well against the Browns in game 2.

Gray finished with 76 yards rushing on 18 carries to lead the team, but many still wonder if he will even pick up a spot on the 53-man roster. Right now it isn’t looking good. Atlanta is loaded at the running back position and with the future of Terron Ward and Brandon Wilds still unknown, so is Gray’s.

With each passing day, it’s looking like Ward might get the axe regardless of what happens to Gray. This would leave the third spot up to Gray or Wilds, and that’s a call that not even the Falcons could make at this time.

Whoever has the better two games to end the preseason between Gray and Wilds would be my pick to earn that third running back spot. And with Gray already somewhat experienced in the NFL, having him make the roster and Wilds earn a practice squad spot might be best for business.
