Atlanta Falcons: RB Brian Hill out for the final preseason game
By Randy Gurzi
Atlanta Falcons rookie Brian Hill was already falling behind fellow running back Terron Ward, and will now miss the preseason finale with an ankle injury suffered in Saturday’s home opener
It hasn’t been the best preseason for Atlanta Falcons rookie running back Brian Hill. He’s rushed the ball 26 times for just 41 yards with a high of six yards. His average per carry is a paltry 1.6 yards and he hasn’t done much in the passing game — catching just one ball for four yards.
Simply put, the fifth-round rookie out of Wyoming is struggling big time adapting to the NFL.

His preseason won’t get any better either as he’s been ruled out following an ankle injury suffered against the Arizona Cardinals on Saturday. It was the home opener for Atlanta as they showed off their crown jewel — the brand new Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Arizona spoiled that opener with a win, and for Hill it was even worse as his status moving forward is now up in the air.
For as much as he was struggling, veteran Terron Ward was impressing. That’s put Hill at risk of not even making the team as Ward was head and shoulders above him for the third spot behind starter Devonta Freeman and backup Tevin Coleman. The injury may last into the regular season, but that concern is the least of the worries for Hill now as he just hopes to make this final roster.

At Wyoming, Hill was a monster. He had 22 touchdowns last season and 35 in his three-year career. He finished with 4,287 yards rushing in that span and went for 5.5 per carry. It’s a far cry from what he’s been showing so far for Atlanta. Hopefully he will get the chance to redeem himself soon, it just won’t be this coming Thursday against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
