Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter has let football pass him by.

The Atlanta Falcons were coming off a bye week with a little momentum. They were 3-6 and a win against the Saints would have given them an outside chance to get into the playoffs. Instead of coming out and making a statement, they did the exact opposite.

When the Atlanta Falcons lose games, many of us are quick to point the finger at the defense. We all know that this defense is a work in progress. It wasn’t like Taysom Hill was carving up this defense like a Thanksgiving turkey.

If this defense gives up 24 points with the firepower that Atlanta has on offense, more often than not, the Falcons should be able to pull off the win. Thanks to Dirk Koetter, that wasn’t the case.

There should be no reason why this offense struggles to score points the way they do at times. On the first drive of the game, the Atlanta Falcons were able to go down the field pretty quickly. After that, it seemed like Koetter forgot what his job was.

As soon as Julio Jones went down, it seemed as if Koetter just threw the whole game plan away. Let’s face it, if you can’t produce points with his offense, then you no longer need to be a coach in the NFL.

This isn’t something that just started this season with the Atlanta Falcons.

The Atlanta Falcons had this same issue last season which led to many people pointing the finger at Matt Ryan. Playing behind an offensive line that struggled like no other yesterday and couple that with a coordinator that clearly doesn’t know what he’s doing, there is not one quarterback who can flourish in a situation like that.

Arthur Blank made a big mistake in allowing Koetter to remain with the team after he fired Dan Quinn and Thomas Dimitroff.

The past regime is like a virus and you don’t get rid of part of the virus if you want it to go away you have to part ways with all of it. Raheem Morris has done an ok job with this team, but having Koetter around continues to affect this team in a negative way.

Koetter needs to get his walking papers and just walk off into the sunset because he no longer has what it takes to be an offensive coordinator in the NFL.

Next. Falcons need to fire Dirk Koetter. dark
