James “Boobie” Miles – Friday Night Lights

This might be cheating because James “Boobie” Miles was a real high school running back and was among the nation’s best players in the 1980s.

In 1987, Miles ran almost 1,400 yards for Permian High School and was named a 1988 all-American. He had received scholarship offers from Notre Dame, Florida State, Nebraska, Houston, Texas A&M, Clemson, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, LSU, SMU, USC, Purdue, and Arkansas among others.

However, a torn ACL and bad advice from family and loved ones derailed his high school and eventually he quit playing football in high school altogether.

At 6’1 and 220 pounds, Boobie had the elite size for a running back – he was the same size as Bo Jackson and Herschel Walker. While he will never know how differently his football career would have turned out of just a couple decisions were made differently, we know he was a helluva running back in Friday Night Lights.

His vision and ability to run through tackles is not something that the Atlanta Falcons have had in years and something that this offense sorely misses. A running back with those abilities would surely help lead this team back to the playoffs sooner than later.
