The Atlanta Falcons will take a day two safety

There is probably only one round-one safety in this class and that is Trevon Moehrig.

Moehrig has the potential to be a stud at free safety. His high football IQ makes him excel when it comes to making big plays. He generated seven interceptions in his college career.

While his intelligence is a major asset, he also possesses the physical traits needed to cover the entire field when left alone on the back end. At 6’1” and 200 pounds he has the size, speed, and athleticism to excel in the NFL.

If Moehrig happens to fall to the top of the second, the Falcons should be ecstatic for the opportunity to draft him.

Richie Grant lit up the Senior Bowl and is the next best option. Grant played multiple roles in college, primarily deployed at free safety he would also move to the slot and box safety. The versatility will be useful in Pees’ defense but primarily he will be a solid starter at free safety.

If the Falcons go a different route in round two Javon Holland would be a great option if he makes it to the third. Like Grant, he can be deployed in multiple positions in the secondary.

Hamsah Nasirildeen, Ar’Darius Washington, and Andre Cisco should all be around three or four targets if the Falcons decide to wait on the position. All of them could start immediately and have plenty of upsides but lack the overall polish of the players ahead of them.

Moehrig, Grant, and Holland are a step above the rest of this group and would provide a huge boost to the safety group. The Falcons would be smart to target one of the three on day two.

The  Atlanta Falcons need to find a way to sign an impact veteran

Getting Younghoe Koo signed should be a priority for the Falcons this offseason.

The Falcons will need to make several swings at the safety position this offseason. Bringing back either Keanu Neal or Kazee should be a priority to ensure the back end is not entirely new in 2021.

The cap will likely prohibit the Falcons from finding two big-name starting-caliber vets. Whether it’s Neal, Kazee, or an outside player, signing one surefire veteran starter needs to be a priority. Pairing that vet with a high upside rookie should be the goal for this front office.
