2. Matt Ryan isn’t getting traded

Matt Ryan was the subject of trade rumors earlier this offseason and there was plenty of speculation that if the Falcons didn’t trade him this year, that he’d be a prime candidate to be traded next year.

That’s not going to be the case.

While Ryan’s cap hit is a reasonable $26.9 million now, his dead cap hit is through the roof ($65 million this year). In addition, his cap hit is now slated to be $48.6 million next year and he’ll have a dead cap hit of $40.2 million.

What’s that mean? He’s not going to be traded and he’s not going to be cut. The Falcons have their guy for at least the next two seasons.

No team is going to take on Ryan’s sizeable contract and pushing off the payment isn’t going to help his trade viability.

For everyone hoping the Falcons would move on from Matt Ryan, you can put those ideas to bed.
