There is always a certain time before training camp, where free agents start to sign with different teams, that has now happened and with the Atlanta Falcons needs, they do not have nearly as many options as they did a week or two ago.

It was almost a foregone conclusion that many signings would happen in the past week and it happened with big names reaching agreements with new teams, making the free-agent market look a lot more scarce and the Atlanta Falcons weren’t able to add any veteran leadership at positions of need.

The Atlanta Falcons need help, especially when it comes to the defensive side of the ball, they cannot afford to wait any longer

Atlanta Falcons fans know that the team’s defense is a big question mark. Who is going to rush the passer? Is there enough talent in the secondary to stop anyone? Well, if you were hoping the team would add a big-name free agent before training camp, the options continue to dwindle.

First Melvin Ingram decided to sign with the Kansas City Chiefs. Certainly, he was a top target when it came to adding pass rush.

Then a bunch of secondary players started to join new NFL teams. Steven Nelson has joined the Eagles, Malik Hooker looks to be joining the Cowboys, and the one that probably hurts the most, former Atlanta Falcon, Brian Poole is signing with the dreadful Saints.

Many fans were hoping to see the excellent slot corner make his way back to Atlanta, and now instead of that, we will be seeing him in the worst uniforms in the league.

The Atlanta Falcons have a few options left, however. Justin Houston is probably the biggest name that they could try to attract. It would undoubtedly boost the fan’s hopes. He still has some gas left in the tank, and quite honestly would be the best pass rusher on the outside the Falcons would have.

Other options may include Everson Griffen, Geno Atkins, Kawann Short, and Jurrell Casey.

So there are still options, but the Atlanta Falcons cannot afford to sit around and wait any longer. The signing spree will most likely continue through the next week, hopefully, the Atlanta Falcons will be a part of it.
