A trend on this list is Falcons players who have expiring contracts, and with the voided year on Fowler’s deal, he will probably not be here come next season.

Fortunately for Atlanta, Fowler is playing much better than he did last year and that could give other teams hope that he could be a big contributor for them down the stretch. He has shown that he can be a great player, but he just has not been consistent with the Falcons. It would be a big gamble for the other team, but one that could pay off in big ways.

This would leave the Falcons edge rusher position in an even bigger mess. They already lack talent and are one of the worst in the league, taking away the biggest name in the group would not be good for this already bad defense, but the team is building for the future, not for this season.

The departure of one player also creates a bigger opportunity for someone else. Ade Ogundeji would find himself with many more snaps in every game and that could benefit the future of the Falcons.

Ade has shown that he can play, while he has not been given a lot of snaps, he has shown huge flashes. He has been in the backfield as much as anyone when he is on the field. This should go into the decision of trading away Dante Fowler.

If Atlanta feels like they are not ready to contend yet—which they should feel that way—then it does not make much sense for guys like Fowler and Hurst to be on the roster when they will likely be leaving after this season. This team is not good to this point in the season, so they should try to stock up on draft picks while they can.
