Falcons third New Year’s resolution: Focus on years down the road, not so much the upcoming season

Another one that will disappoint many Atlanta Falcons fans, the team must build for the future, instead of the upcoming season.

This all goes back to the fact that the team lacks talent in numerous positions, you could make an argument that they must add talent to every single position on the roster, and with not too much money at their disposal, they must make decisions for the long run.

Think about it, they have key players like Matt Ryan, Kyle Pitts, Chris Lindstrom, Jake Matthews, Grady Jarrett, A.J. Terrell, and possibly Calvin Ridley, but when you look at the depth behind them, it is tragic.

Matt Ryan’s years are numbered, there must be a plan to replace him at some point. Kyle Pitts is spectacular but Arthur Smith loves to use multiple tight ends and if Hayden Hurst leaves, there is not much past Kyle Pitts at the position. Chris Lindstrom and Jake Matthews are great, but what about the guys around them? They have not been so great, not to mention the depth behind each one of them.

Then on the defensive side of the ball, you have key guys like Grady Jarrett and A.J. Terrell, but past them, it is less than ideal.

You get the picture, it may take a few years to build something special, but hopefully, it will eventually come.
