Who the Atlanta Falcons will start at the most important position in football

  • QB1: Marcus Mariota

This might not be the exciting answer as everyone wants to get a look at the Falcons’ rookie quarterback, but Marcus Mariota will be the starter come week one against the Saints.

Unless he is absolutely awful in the preseason while Desmond Ridder lights it up, but that is not going to happen, at least won’t happen to a level that will persuade the coaches to throw a rookie out there in week one.

The Falcons’ decision to bring in Mariota was a smart one. He could legitimately become more than a ‘bridge quarterback.’ Think about what Arthur Smith was able to do with Ryan Tannehill who was at the lowest point of his career.

Why shouldn’t we think that he can revitalize the career of a player who was benched for a player who had his career revitalized?

That was probably confusing but the fact that Ryan Tannehill stole Marcus Mariota’s job after getting a jumpstart in his career, and now Marcus Mariota is trying to do the same, is just ironic.

It also seems like something that will actually happen. The story seems too good not to work out but we will have to see how it all pans out.

There has been talk about him potentially winning Comeback Player of the Year, and while it is way too early to say that he will, it seems like something that could seriously happen.

He has basically had two-and-a-half seasons to sit back and grow into what he was drafted to be. During those years he has also been able to sit behind Ryan Tannehill and Derek Carr. We know that at least one of those guys would have helped mentor him.

Without a doubt, it will be an interesting season for this team as there are so many questions to be answered for this Falcons team.
