3) #99 Derrick Tangelo – Defensive Tackle – Penn State

If the Falcons want to know what type of player Derrick Tangelo is — although at this point they better know what type of player he is — they do not need to go far as they have the guy who lined up next to him, that being Arnold Ebiketie.

Their position and school are where the similarities end though because Derrick Tangelo is an inch shorter and about 60 pounds heavier than Ebiketie. He is a stout body that could bring the needed depth to a thin position.

The defensive tackle position was thin to start training camp but since then they have had two guys — one who was waived — go down with significant injuries.

Just look at the depth chart at defensive tackle. You have the great Grady Jarrett, Ta’Quon Graham who is only in his second year, Marlon Davidson who still has potential but has yet to show it, Anthony Rush who was a solid player last year, and then a bunch of guys who have very limited NFL experience.

The players who are behind those top four interior linemen have a combined 15 games of NFL experience.

Even with Davidson, Graham, and Rush, it is basically Grady Jarrett and a bunch of unproven players.

This might give the undrafted DT a chance to sneak into the mix. He has competition around him that does not have much more experience than he does, so if he outperforms them, he will earn a roster spot.
