4 Lasting takeaways from the Atlanta Falcons win in Seattle
By Nick Halden
1. Marcus Mariota as a starting quarterback promises a roller coaster
This game perfectly sums up Marcus Mariota as a starting quarterback in this league. Starting from the first play in which Mariota threw the ball deep overthrowing Kyle Pitts who had a step on his defender and could have made the play with an accurate throw.
Mariota bounced back and led a scoring drive scrambling into the endzone for Atlanta’s first touchdown of the game. Mariota followed this up making big throws to Olamide, London, and Pitts throughout the game when Atlanta needed a play. These plays were surprisingly accurate and helped the Atlanta offense consistently move the ball against Seattle.
However, Mariota’s solid game was capped off by putting the ball on the turf yet again and giving the Seahawks the chance to drive for what could have been the game-winning score. Grady Jarrett, however, changed the narrative with a clutch sack that forced Geno to throw the ball up for grabs on the next play and gave Atlanta the victory.
This is going to be Atlanta’s season as long as Marcus Mariota is their starting quarterback. He is insanely talented and capable of making great throws and pushing this offense down the field consistently. However, just as consistent are his issues with turnovers and overthrows that ended with him being benched the last time he was a starter.
