2. Arthur Smith

Smith has proven capable of elevating below average teams to play at a consistent level even when opposing rosters are clearly far superior. In both of the seasons Arthur Smith has been in charge the Falcons have been consistently in the playoff hunt until late in the season despite having zero pass rush and issues at quarterback.

Smith, however, now has to prove he can take the next step and win double-digit games this season giving the Falcons a chance to break their playoff drought. With the benefit of their full cap space and another year of draft picks there is reason to wonder if Smith’s seat could grow hot with another middling season.

This is part of the reason the Falcons are best served to stick with Ridder at quarterback this off-season. It allows them to safely build a complete roster and give the team their best chance at consistently winning games. Making the blockbuster move at quarterback takes away the ability to build a complete roster and turns the heat up even higher if the move doesn’t work it will be the coach not the quarterback who is jettisoned in the off-season.
