For the second consecutive offseason, the Atlanta Falcons made CB Cobee Bryant a victim of final roster cuts. It happened as a rookie last summer, and then the new regime helped lightning strike twice--but both times managed to end up on the Falcons' practice squad as a developmental piece.
For most of last season, Bryant was stashed on the practice squad until Mike Hughes' injury saw him get a chance on the active roster, and he wasn't particularly productive. He was more of a liability in coverage than we realize, and those same issues lingered throughout the preseason to the point that C.J. Henderson out-played him. And 2026's release told a different story.
The Falcons appeared ready to keep him on the practice squad, but some roster shuffling saw the second-year man again get released--this time off the P-Squad. As Khalid Kareem, Zach Harrison, and Jammie Robinson were signed to the PS, both Bryant and Cam Sample were released off of it.

Cobee Bryant deserves another chance to prove himself after the Falcons
It was fairly surprising that the 24-year-old wasn't claimed off waivers when he was originally waived, but even still, he shouldn't struggle to find new work now that he's no longer in Atlanta. Because while the on-field production hasn't been very consistent, there's still a fair amount of untapped potential.
The rule of thumb in the NFL is that you can never have too much depth, especially at a position as volatile and unpredictable as cornerback. And there should be DB-needy teams interested in a player who most people had a draftable grade on in the 2025 NFL Draft--even if it was a later Day 3 grade.
We have to remember here that despite the holes in his game at the NFL level, Cobee Bryant still has an impressive track record. In each of his final three seasons at Kansas he was an All-Big 12 First Team honoree, and across that time frame he amassed 11 interceptions and 21 passes defensed.
And while Big 12 competition is nowhere close to being the same animal as the Big Ten or SEC, you have to give the guy credit. Cornerback is one of the hardest positions to play in sports, and while his acclimation process to the NFL has taken longer than expected, perhaps a scenery change can help unlock his potential.
The Falcons mainly released Cobee Bryant off the practice squad because Jammie Robinson can play both cornerback and safety and they didn't have much use for him. But as a developmental piece at cornerback, it shouldn't take him long to find another practice squad opportunity.
