The Atlanta Falcons' defense just suffered a devastating blow that it'll be difficult to recover from. Young edge rusher Jalon Walker was carted off the field during Tuesday's practice, and it was later confirmed that he suffered a torn ACL--ending his 2026 season before it could ever really begin.
If the Falcons want to replicate their franchise-record 57 sacks from last season, they're going to have to count on someone to step up. Right now, the pass-rush room is in dire straits, but the Walker injury could blossom into the perfect opportunity for Bralen Trice to step up in a moment of need.
Trice has become something of a mystery to Falcons fans. He tore his ACL in his first preseason game, which saw him miss his entire rookie season. And then he re-aggravated that same knee injury, which kept him sidelined for all of 2025 too--so he doesn't have a single NFL snap under his belt.
Bralen Trice has the perfect opportunity to prove himself to Falcons fans
For all of the injury woes the 25-year-old has dealt with across the last two seasons, he's back to full strength for the first time since his college days. And now that Atlanta's pass-rush is in such a brutal spot, they have no choice but to rely on Trice to step up in some way, shape, or form this season.
Early returns in training camp suggest that the coaching staff is incredibly pleased with Bralen Trice's recovery and the way he's looked so far. In fact, he's genuinely looked good in camp. He's provided some good pressure, and even received some first-team EDGE reps before the Walker injury.
The Dirty Birds should still have high hopes for a player they drafted in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft, but obviously, we haven't had a chance to see him in action. So this is going to be a pivotal moment for Trice, since he finally has a shot to prove he was worth the wait and stabilize the room.
Between Trice, Ebukam, Ojulari, and Thomas, it's fairly obvious that the Washington product has the highest upside--health has just been a difficult hurdle to clear. But now that he's fully healthy, he has a golden opportunity to turn things around and become a much-needed contributor for a DL in desperate need of any sort of stability.
Instead of slowly easing him back into a major role, the Jalon Walker injury has thrown a wrench into everything. The Falcons may have to thrust Bralen Trice into the starting lineup sooner than we expect, and he certainly has some major shoes to fill as long as he's able to stay on the field all year.
