The Atlanta Falcons have been quite busy since the start of the NFL's legal tampering period, which is a great sign for the fan base. Beneath a new head coach in Kevin Stefanski and franchise icon Matt Ryan leading the charge, Atlanta's fresh era is in full swing.
Among the many moves the Falcons chose to make once the tampering period opened up, one has to be talked about far more than the others, and its strictly because of the recognizable name, first and foremost.
Atlanta agreed to sign Tua Tagovailoa, whom the Miami Dolphins have chosen to release while taking on a historic dead cap hit in the process. Although the Tua experiment crashed and burned in Miami, the Falcons now have a chance to help him turn a corner.
In the process of agreeing with Tua, however, the Falcons are now all but completely out of any potential Joe Flacco signing.
The Atlanta Falcons' deal with Tua Tagovailoa should close the door on any Joe Flacco buzz
For Falcons fans just catching up, the thought of signing Flacco to back up Michael Penix Jr. wasn't just a mere thought. It was something that had been floated out there by experts at one point.
And, it made some sense.
Flacco saw a career resurgence while playing for Stefanski in Cleveland. His career was all but dead after his time with the New York Jets, but when the Browns came calling in 2023, he led them to a 4-1 record and "Flacco Mania" was, indeed, back.
Now, with Tua on board alongside Penix, the likelihood of signing Flacco becomes real slim. Atlanta also has former Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Easton Stick on the roster, but his spot on the team isn't exactly guaranteed.
If Penix's health outlook were to suddenly change, maybe Flacco becomes an option, if he's still available. That's maybe the only world where he is signed in Atlanta.
Let's say the Falcons did end up signing Flacco, in the near future, though. In the grand scheme of things, it may just create more unneeded buzz or drama -- and that's not at all referring to within the locker room.
The media would have a field day with Flacco, Tua and Penix all in the same room. The minute something went wrong with one of them, you'd start hearing chatter about one of the other two (if not both).
It would be a delicate situation I'm sure the Falcons try to avoid, which brings us back to the initial point: Flacco isn't coming to Atlanta.
And that settles that.
