Round 3: Tevin Coleman – C

When Tevin Coleman was selected in the third round last year, it looked like the new coaching staff had picked their featured running back. Due to injury, Coleman won the training camp battle with Devonta Freeman and started the season as the leading back. He made a promising start in the opener, too, rushing 20 times for 80 yards against the Eagles.

He ran in his first touchdown in Week 2, but later went down with a ribs injury. Devonta Freeman started while he got healthy, and the rest was history. Freeman dominated on the ground and Coleman wasn’t able to reclaim his spot.

Freeman will enter 2016 as the starter, but Coleman did flash potential. When he came in, he broke out some nice runs, but fumbling was an issue. The Indiana product fumbled three times.

What we did see was potential. As long as Freeman is dominating on the ground, it’s hard to imagine Coleman getting many opportunities, although it’s possible Dan Quinn will want to split the time between the two in 2016.

Overall, it was a disappointing debut campaign for Coleman. Injuries held him back at the worst times, and he didn’t grasp opportunities by turning it over too often.
