2. Fields doesn’t block Desmond Ridder if outplayed

Justin Fields will be in the third year of his rookie deal with Desmond Ridder in his second season. Either player should be able to win the job even if Atlanta spends a draft pick or two to land Fields. Justin would have the inside track considering his starting experience but it doesn’t block Ridder if he is the player many Atlanta fans believe him to be.

Worst case scenario for Atlanta in this trade is Ridder wins the starting job and you overpaid for an elite backup who can run wildcat packages. Fields can bring immense value to this team even if Ridder is the one starting every game.

Whether it is in wildcat or in short-yardage situations Fields would be a great fit in Arthur Smith’s system and the ultimate backup. The only downside of this situation would be the lack of a veteran in the room to help guide Ridder.
