Atlanta Falcons: is Devin Hester a necessity?

facebooktwitterreddit

The Atlanta Falcons are entering into week 3 of the NFL with a perfect 2-0 record, good enough for a tie for fist place with the Carolina Panthers in the NFC South. The Falcons have had a lot of success early on, but have been without one of the most dangerous players in the NFL.

Devin Hester has missed the first two games of the season with a turf toe injury and has already been ruled out the Falcons’ next game against the Dallas Cowboys. The Falcons have not missed a beat with the absence of Hester, so that leaves everyone wondering how important he really is.

Is Devin Hester a Necessity? I don’t believe he is. Will his absence keep the Falcons from making a playoff run in 2015? Absolutely not. Sure, having Hester would be a nice asset to have, but he isn’t going to make or break what the Falcons have to start the season.

Hester is a luxury, not a necessity. Do you wish your BMW had nice rims? Sure you do, but you don’t need to have them for your car to be nice. The car itself is nice. See my point? The Falcons are winning, so there hasn’t been a lot of talk about Hester being out.

Hester is the best return man of all time and will also be a decent weapon to have on offense, but if he were to miss the entire year, it wouldn’t be that big of a deal. If the Falcons start to lose, then maybe people start to talk about his absence playing a role in it, but until the Falcons do, nobody will care whether or not he is playing.

I will be very excited to have Hester back returning kicks and punts for us and catching the occasional pass, but he won’t make or break the team’s season. What is your take on Hester for 2015? Is he a necessity?
